A midcentury modern gem designed by renown architect Ralph Twitchell is now for sale on Siesta Key | Tampa

A midcentury gem designed by a founding member of the of the Sarasota School of Architecture movement is now on the market in Siesta Key.

Located at 1224 Port Ln., the home was completed in 1960 and was designed by the late modernist architect Ralph Spencer Twitchell, whose style often integrated the surrounding Florida landscape with the use of clean lines, indoor/outdoor spaces, glass walls, and Ocala block.

This home checks all the boxes, and while the listing only shows 1,656-square feet of living space, it doesn’t include the home’s stylish breezeways and covered walkways, which connect the main house to the separate guest quarters.

Totaling three bedrooms and two bathrooms, the home comes with exposed beams, pecky cypress wood ceilings, two koi ponds, terrazzo floors, a wood-burning fireplace,  birch cabinets, a hot tub and pool, a dock and boat lift, and more.

Twitchell is often credited as the father of the Sarasota School of Architecture modernist movement. Before his death in 1978, Twitchell was responsible for an incredible amount of influential projects in the Tampa Bay area, including the Cocoon House, the Revere Quality House, the Lido Beach Casino and more.

Coincidently, another nearby Twitchell home is also on the market at the moment for $2.15 million.

This particular Twitchell home is asking $2.85 million, and the listing agents are Michael and Laurel James of Michael Saunders & Company.
